Birds and mammals of Perth (Nature Travel blog)

This is a long, long overdue nature travel log that actually took place in 2017!  It was our first ever maiden trip to Perth, Australia in May 2017 and flew there using Jetstar which proved an inexpensive yet comfortable 5 hour 20 minute flight time. We didn't rent a car for our maiden trip there and travel around using public transport during our 55 nights stay there. I booked my accommodations via Agoda and stayed at Baileys Serviced Apartments which was pretty good as it allowed us also to cook at "home" if we wanted to.The weather was perfect for us coming from sunny Singapore, and it only gets chilly when windy. There is plenty of things to do within and outside of Perth, with many great websites offering fantastic advice. If you plan to explore outside Perth more, renting a car will be the best option. As this is a travel log with a twist, my focus is on the birds and mammals i manage to see during my visit here, mostly taken at the beautiful King's Park and Rottnest Island.

Kings Park and Botanic Gardens

King Park and Botanic Gardens is conveniently located within Perth City itself and access to it is free and of course we took Perth's free public transport (CAT -Central Area Transit) and entered via Kings Park Road. The Park is lovely and worth spending at least half of your day exploring this place ( warning: half the day may not be enough !)

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is the place in Western Australia, to go if you love nature and want to also tick off from your bucket list taking that Instagram selfie picture of the cute Quokka (a marsupial, same family like the Kangaroos and Wallabies). Rottnest Island requires more than a day trip to truly appreciate this place, but anyways maybe another time. We made our there using the Rottnest Express. There are also other ferry services (depending on your port of depature) which you can book online or at the counter.

My Perth trip continues with a visit to Fremantle, (including the Fremantle Prison) the Perth Zoo, Swan Valley, Eas Perth Cemetery and Perth Mint. It was a relaxing trip overall and hopefully we will have an opportunity to go there again with a trip to other places within Western Australia and an opportunity to do some whale watching, if it is in season.
